Sing to Win

This year we’ve partnered with Music in the Gardens and BBC Radio Sheffield to offer TWO fantastic opportunities to come and sing with us LIVE at our Proms Spectacular in the Botanical Gardens on Sunday 7th July!!!

The Contest

Music in the Gardens’ ‘Sing to Win’ is a contest organised by Music by the Gardens and The Sheffield Philharmonic Orchestra to find the area’s best Female and Male vocal talent.  The winner of each category will be chosen to sing solo with us (a full 60+ piece orchestra!), in front of an audience of approx. 2,000 on Sunday 7th July 2019.  The type of voices we are seeking will be non-operatic and will contemporary in style and delivery.

How to apply

Applications to enter the competition are to be submitted by completing the online application form found on www.musicinthegardens.co.uk.

The closing date for entries will be Midnight Wednesday 27th March 2019.

Eligibility

Anyone who resides within BBC Radio Sheffield’s catchment area aged 18 years and over is eligible to compete.

Audition & Shortlisting

The judging panel will be made up of a representative from the Sheffield Philharmonic Orchestra and from the Music in the Gardens team.

Auditions will be held on Saturday 30th March 2019 between 2pm and 4pm at a central Sheffield location TBC.

You’ll be asked to sing the following song (which you will then perform live on stage with us on 7th July): 

  • Female– Somewhere Over the Rainbow
  • Male– We Have All The Time In The World 

A pianist will be provided for the auditions and you will be able to sing in a key suitable for your voice.

We will shortlist to find the best 6 voices (3 Female; 3 Male)

Final

The final will take place Saturday 27th April 2019 at 7pm a central Sheffield location TBC.

At the final you will be accompanied by a piano and small string ensemble.  You’ll be asked to perform the audition song again, as well as a song of your choosing (subject to availability and practicality).

The Final Judging Panel

The final adjudication will be made up of 4 judges from The Sheffield Philharmonic Orchestra, Music in the Gardens, BBC Radio Sheffield and a Talent Agent from a major booking agency.

The Winners

The two winners should be available to attend rehearsals on Tuesdays –  11th and 25th June and 2nd July 2019 (7.30pm).  As well as a soundcheck on Sunday 7th July 2019 (2pm) and, of course, the performance on the same evening (8pm).

The two winners will also each receive 4 complimentary tickets to the event for guests.
